About the Student Behavioral Consultant Team

The SBCT provides a means of communicating and assessing concerns about students in order to engage in early intervention strategies that best utilize campus and community resources to assist students.

Overview of the SBCT

The purpose of the SBCT team is to initiate a collaborative effort to address student behaviors that are of concern to the University community and connect the student to the appropriate resources. The multidisciplinary team has representatives from the following areas:

  • University Police
  • Student Affairs
  • Hazen Center for Integrated Care
  • Student Accessibility Service
  • Residential Life/LC
  • Student Conduct
  • Academic Affairs
  • Athletics

All information on students referred to the team is handled in a private manner on a need-to-know basis.

The SBCT works in collaboration with student service departments on campus and will not take the place of services such as Hazen Center for Integrated Care Counseling Center. SBCT protocols and procedures are developed from best practices for Behavioral Intervention Teams and in Case Management.

The University is a member of the national organization for behavioral intervention teams (NABITA) and SBCT members present at annual conferences and are published in the Journal on Behavioral Intervention Teams (JBIT).

The SBCT is not a disciplinary or a 24/7 crisis response team. If you are concerned about a student’s safety:

  • On Campus: Call University Police at (585) 395-2222
  • Off Campus: Call 911

Meetings

Our team meets weekly (Tuesday afternoons) to review students of concern that have been referred to the team from all areas of campus. On average, the team reviews two to five new referrals per week.

Workshops

The SBCT hosts workshops on campus and will provide presentations to departments and offices upon request.
