With nearly half a billion speakers, Spanish is the second most-spoken language in the world. Learn about the language, the culture, and people who speak it.
A total of 21 countries across Europe, North America, and South America name Spanish as their official language.
Majoring in Spanish is about more than knowing the language — it’s about immersing in different cultures, understanding others’ perspectives, and connecting people from many backgrounds.
Learning a second language has been shown to improve memory, multitasking, and problem-solving skills. And as the #1 most commonly spoken non-English language in the United States, speaking Spanish can open many doors in the job market that were otherwise closed.
Students can also earn a language certificate by taking 15 credits beyond the introductory courses.
