For Parents

SUNY Brockport has several recognized social fraternities and sororities affiliated with our campus. Joining one of these organizations can provide your student with a positive, enriching experience full of leadership and service opportunities.

To ensure success for our Greek organizations and their members, SUNY Brockport has developed several important policies and procedures. These include strict academic requirements, new member education processes, and initiation standards. SUNY Brockport also has a “deferred recruitment” process, which doesn’t allow first-year students to join a Greek organization until they have earned at least 12 matriculated credits and a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Deferred recruitment allows incoming students to focus on making their academic transition to college before they can become involved in a Greek organization that requires a significant time commitment.

SUNY Brockport works with all recognized fraternities and sororities to develop a regulated new member education process. This process varies slightly in each organization, but typically lasts six to eight weeks and features a variety of activities, events, and meetings to help education new members on their organization.

Prior to joining an organization, we encourage your student to thoroughly research the fraternity or sorority that they are interested in. Once initiated into the organization, your student will become a life-long member of the chapter. This will provide them with unique opportunities to grow as a leader, contribute to the campus and Brockport communities, and network with alumni all across the country!

Benefits of Membership
