Certificate Programs

The Leadership Development Program is based on the idea that all students have the capacity for leadership.

The Leadership Development Program (LDP) features three distinct levels: Green, Gold, and Capstone. Students begin with the Green or Gold level. Each level of the program is designed to develop specific leadership skills or traits. The program is grounded in the Social Change Model of Leadership. In LDP, we believe:

Leadership is socially responsible. It impacts change on behalf of others.
Leadership is collaborative.
Leadership is a process, not a position.
Leadership is inclusive and accessible to all.
Leadership should be values-based.
Community involvement and service is a powerful vehicle for leadership.

The Leadership Development Program is open to all students. You may join at any point in the academic year.

In this level, you will learn how to:

Develop your personal definition of leadership.
Connect your values to your actions.
Identify your strengths and areas of growth while learning how they impact your leadership style.
Make meaningful connections and network with your peers.

Activities in this level include:

Engaging in fun, interactive workshops.
Working one-on-one with a mentor throughout the year.
Expanding your professional development through participation in the Leadership Conference and Diversity Conference.
Connecting to leadership opportunities on campus.

After completing the Green level, you will move to the Gold level.

In this level, you will learn how to:

Create a healthy foundation for inter-group and intra-group relationships.
Build interpersonal communication skills while learning to navigate different conversation styles.
Develop tools and strategies for successful group work.
Practice the effective use of group skills among diverse perspectives.
Develop skills for operating in a “power-with” work model.

Activities in this level include:

Engaging in fun, interactive workshops.
Practice with group facilitation.
Expanding your professional development through participation in the Leadership Conference and Diversity Conference.
Connecting to leadership opportunities on campus.

After completing the Gold level, you will move to the Capstone level.

In this level, you will learn how to:

Recognize and challenge your own assumptions.
Recognize and challenge the assumptions of others.
Explore how people impact society.
Reflect on how you express leadership in your personal life, your work life, and in your community.

Activities in this level include:

Completing a 300-level 2-credit course to explore concepts related to leadership and society
Taking the Clifton Strengths Assessment to identify your natural talents and develop a plan to leverage your strengths.
Collaborating with other student leaders to plan and execute Capstone projects, including the opportunity to mentor a Green level leadership student
Completing an Expression of Growth project
Expanding your professional development through participation in the Leadership Conference and Diversity Conference.
