The SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence (CASE) acknowledges students’ outstanding achievements. While there is no minimum GPA requirement, candidates are expected to have demonstrated exceptional academic performance.
We seek nominations of students who have best demonstrated the integration of SUNY excellence within many aspects of their lives, which must include three of the following areas:
Academics
Leadership
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice
Campus involvement, Civics & Service
Research & Development
Arts (creative or performing)
Eligibility
Only students graduating between June 2025 and May 2026 will be considered. Applicants may include information about previous honors and awards from SUNY Brockport or local, station, national, or international organizations. The selection committee will only consider information included in your submission.
Nomination & Section Process
All nomination forms must be submitted by Saturday, January 10, 2025 by 11:59 pm. Students may complete their own form or be nominated by a SUNY Brockport faculty/staff member. Students nominated by faculty/staff members should be involved in the application process to ensure that all areas of accomplishment are included.
Nomination packets must include the following:
A completed Nomination Form that details the student’s accomplishments and achievements
2-3 letters of Recommendations
Letters of recommendation should be submitted as part of the nomination form. If necessary, the author may submit their letter of recommendation directly to the committee by emailing leadership@brockport.edu. All letters of recommendation must be received by Friday, January 17 at 11:59 pm”
A committee comprised of faculty, staff, and students will review the nominations and select finalists for the award. Once the finalists are selected, their nomination forms are sent to the President’s Office for review and approval. After approval from the President, their nomination forms are sent to SUNY for final approval.
Recognition
Award recipients will be recognized at two different ceremonies:
The SUNY Brockport Honors & Awards Ceremony. This will be held in the Union Ballroom on Friday, April 25, 2025
The SUNY Awards Ceremony. This will be held at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, NY on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Students are encouraged to bring up to 2 guests with them to this event. Recipients will be joined by the President, or a representative of their choice, who will join the SUNY Chancellor on stage to present the award.

Successful candidates will be invited to the Capital District for an award ceremony and reception on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Students will be encouraged to have their parents or guests (two total) join them for this special occasion. In addition, campus presidents will be notified of their awardees and invited to the ceremony and reception. Campus presidents, or a representative of their choice, will be asked to join the Chancellor on stage to present awards to their campus recipients.
Examples from Successful Nomination Packets
Jane Brown is a triple major in Women and Gender Studies, International Studies, and English: Creative Writing. She is the President of Gender Equity Movement, a club on campus devoted to empowering and uplifting all identities. She has studied abroad in Oxford, UK and Paris, France. Her future aspirations include becoming a Women and Gender Studies professor, writing a novel, and seeing as much of the world as possible.
Joe Smith, a first-generation college student majoring in Psycho logy and Biology, is a proud member of the Honors College and CSTEP/McNair program. He is Principle Investigator on his own independent research project, engages with fellow students as a tutor, lab assistant, and community ambassador, and committedly advocates for underserved individuals. Outside of college, Joe supports persons with developmental disabilities in both clinical and community settings. He intends on a career as a physician and researcher.
Presentation at the Midwest Society of Pediatric Research Conference: After completing summer research with Dr. Eric Biondi, a pediatric hospitalist at Golisano Children’s Hospital, was granted the opportunity to submit an abstract to the Midwest Society of Pediatric Research Conference in Cleveland, Ohio on October 30, 2014. Following our diligent work on the manuscript that was being prepared for submission, Dr. Biondi sent me to present research on the “Validation of use of procedural codes to identify infants evaluated for serious bacterial infections.”

Resident Assistant (2016 -2018) - Served as a resident assistant for Bramely Hall in the Teachers of Tomorrow LLC for the 2016-17 school year and hired as a Senior Resident Assistant for MacVicar Hall in the Teachers of Tomorrow LLC for the 2017-18 school year. While serving as an RA, received the Residential Life Rookie of the Year Award (2016-2017) given to an outstanding first-year RA and the Residential Life LLC of the Year Award (2017-2018) for outstanding programs and community involvement.

Coordinator for the Canned Food Drive hosted by the Honors Biology Club: I organized an informal, open basketball game for members of the Honors Biology Club and students of the Biology Department. Students that participated brought non-perishable food items that were donated to the Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf. We donated 39.8 lbs. of food in total (April 2015).
Golden Eagle Senior Council Co-Chair (2017-2018): as a co-chair, I helped coordinate and plan senior events for the Class of 2018. I organized and spoke at the senior forum and senior toast. I also presented President Macpherson with the Class of 2018’s gift to SUNY Brockport.
