Eligibility
To apply for this award, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be an undergraduate student with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA
- At least 56 completed credit hours
- A record of exemplary leadership, scholastic achievement, and a commitment to the University through various avenues of engagement. This can include involvement in campus clubs/orgs, peer mentorship, engaged/experiential learning, community service, and more.
- A demonstrated commitment to citizenship and the creation of an inclusive Brockport community
Application Requirements
To apply for this prestigious award, students must submit the following:
- An application form
- A current copy of your resume
- 2 – 3 letters of recommendation
- An essay describing your experiences as an exemplary leader at SUNY Brockport. This essay should be framed in this year’s leadership theme, which is “Young Leaders in a Changing World.” You should include information on these prompts in your essay:
- Describe the campus organizations, leadership positions, peer mentorship, engaged learning and community service in which you have participated.
- Describe the ways you have contributed to community-building, championed campus diversity and promoted social change.
- Describe how you have navigated a changing world as a young leader and how this informs your involvement on campus.
Selection Process
A committee comprised of faculty, staff, and students will review the applications and select approximately five finalists. All finalists will be invited to participate in an interview with the committee. Feedback from the interview will be added to each finalist’s application.
Once interviews are complete, applications for the finalists will be sent to the Vice President of Student Affairs for review. The Vice President will select the award recipient and a runner-up. Both students will be recognized at the he SUNY Brockport Honors & Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2026. The award recipient will be asked to give a 2 – 3 minute speech at this ceremony.
