Eligibility

To apply for this award, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an undergraduate student with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA
  • At least 56 completed credit hours
  • A record of exemplary leadership, scholastic achievement, and a commitment to the University through various avenues of engagement. This can include involvement in campus clubs/orgs, peer mentorship, engaged/experiential learning, community service, and more.
  • A demonstrated commitment to citizenship and the creation of an inclusive Brockport community,

I have found my time at Brockport remarkable, with mentors that have allowed me to grow professionally and academically. Leaders influence, share their vision, nurture, delegate, and effectively bring individuals to the table. My experiences have taught me to be an active leader.

Application Requirements

To apply for this prestigious award, students must submit the following:

  • An application form
  • A current copy of your resume
  • An essay describing your experiences as an exemplary leader at SUNY Brockport. This essay should be framed in this year’s leadership theme, which is “Local Change, Global Vision.” You should include information on these prompts in your essay:
  • Describe your participation in campus clubs/orgs, leadership positions, peer mentorship, engaged learning, community service, etc.
  • Describe how you have contributed to building community and promoting social change on-campus.
  • Describe how you see the world and how it informs your involvement on-campus.
  • Explain how your local community is connected to/influenced by the outside world.
  • 2 – 3 letters of recommendation

Selection Process

A committee comprised of faculty, staff, and students will review the applications and select approximately five finalists. All finalists will be invited to participate in an interview with the committee. Feedback from the interview will be added to each finalist’s application.

Once interviews are complete, applications for the finalists will be sent to the Vice President of Student Affairs for review. The Vice President will select the award recipient and a runner-up. Both students will be recognized at the he SUNY Brockport Honors & Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 25. The award recipient will be asked to give a 5 – 10 minute speech at this ceremony.

Marion D. Schrank ’69, Vice President for Student Affairs Emerita, was the ultimate mentor, supporter, and champion of student success. She retired in 2002 after over 30 years of service to the University.
