SUNY Brockport Celebrates the Inaugural AI Developer Forum

On January 29, SUNY Brockport celebrated the inaugural AI Developer Forum hosted by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (SIGAI) Student Chapter.

SUNY Brockport’s ACM SIGAI Student Chapter, established in August 2024, marked a milestone on January 29 by hosting its first AI Developer Forum.

Opening remarks from Dr. Rey Sia, Assistant Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, Dr. Catie Lalonde, Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), and Dr. Ning Yu, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Faculty Advisor to the ACM SIGAI Student Chapter, emphasized the University’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative pedagogy, experiential learning, and student success.

Dr. Wenyao Xu, Fellow of IEEE and AIMBE, Director of the Center for Health AI, and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo (UB), delivered a keynote address, “Use-Inspired AI: Transforming Health Science Innovations from Pediatric to Elderly Care.”

Mr. Ali Kemal Tanriverdi, Innovation Team Manager at University of Binghamton, delivered an invited lecture. Members of the ACM SIGAI Student Chapter showcased their project achievements as part of their experiential learning outcomes, mentored by Dr. Yu.

The Forum Steering Committee was co-chaired by Dr. Ning Yu (Computing Sciences) and Dr. Jie Zhang (Education, Languages, and Instructional Design-ELID). The event was supported by Dr. Mary Jo Orzech (Library), Dr. Adam Rich (Biology), Dr. Rebecca Smith (Mathematics), and Dr. Donna Wilkerson-Barker (Director of General Education & ELID).
