College Strategic Plan

SUNY Brockport provides an exemplary undergraduate and graduate public education, encompassing and valuing both the liberal arts and our professional programs. We aim to cultivate the skills and knowledge, critical inquiry, innovation, and resilience necessary to transform society. In doing so, we support our faculty and staff in their pursuit of excellence in teaching, scholarship, creative endeavors, service, academic support, and engagement in the college and beyond. We put student success at the heart of what we do, recognizing the need to be a student-ready college. We recognize the need to adapt and reflect, keeping the students, their needs, their experiences, and their outcomes at the center of our work.

  • GOAL 1 To be a Great College at which to Learn
  • GOAL 2 To be a College Engaged with its Community
  • GOAL 3 To be a Sustainable and Thriving College for the 21st Century
  • GOAL 4 To be a Great College at which to Work

Tasks of the Committee:

  1. Define an overarching vision for Academic Affairs. Describe a holistic view of what makes Brockport special. What features can we highlight that all (or most) students will receive during their time at Brockport? How does our new general education model fit into our academic objectives? How do we address diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues? What is the role of experiential learning (internships, education abroad, undergraduate research, etc.)? How do we embrace faculty scholarship?
  2. The 2022 academic strategic plan places all programs into one of four classifications. Describe the work that needs to be done for programs in the augmentation or reconfiguration categories to grow in a cohesive fashion. What metrics should be considered as key performance indicators? Develop a process of assessment and continuous improvement that will help these programs to achieve excellence, in alignment with the vision established by task 1.
  3. With consideration to the ongoing work of the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee, identify opportunities for growth, whether in new programs or through modification of academic processes (i.e. transfer programs, international students, graduate opportunities, micro-credentials, etc.). What is the appropriate role for the academic division in enrollment, retention, and persistence? Are we best serving the needs of the Brockport and Greater Rochester communities? Is the academic division appropriately configured to support the changes that would facilitate growth of these opportunities?
  4. Develop a clear communication plan to keep all stakeholders (JPBC, Senate, SEM, etc.) informed about goals, processes, metrics used for decision-making, and other developments. Develop clear and measurable objectives for the portfolio of academic programs at Brockport, published in a culminating Academic Strategic Plan document that has been developed collaboratively and vetted by College Senate.
