Students may self-nominate or ask a staff/faculty for a nomination.
The SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence recognizes students for outstanding achievements across multiple areas. This award is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by SUNY.
SUNY seeks nominations for students who have demonstrated excellence in at least three of the following areas: Academics; Leadership; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice; Campus Involvement, Civics and Service; Research and Creative Development; and the Arts (creative or performing)
The nomination should highlight achievements that show why the student is among the most outstanding SUNY-wide in the selected areas. Examples include athletics, advocacy, military service, student government, teaching or service roles, club or organization involvement, volunteer work, and research experience.
Achievements must have occurred while the student was enrolled. Do not include awards or experiences from previous colleges or high school. Nominations with long-term, measurable accomplishments — and those that impact the broader campus or community — will be evaluated more highly.
