Bio

Dr. Carol Wade is an Associate professor in Inclusive Secondary Mathematics Education. She holds a Ph.D. from Clemson University and completed a year of post-doctoral work at Harvard University at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. She is National Board Certified in Adolescence Young Adult Mathematics and certified in AP Calculus and Statistics. Her research area is the secondary-tertiary transition from secondary mathematics to college-level mathematics, which naturally follows a secondary mathematics teaching career for 15 years. Additionally, Dr. Wade supports other researchers with quantitative analysis and has published in the areas of health issues for women in Bangladesh and sports nutrition studies. She remains an active researcher in her field as she teaches a broad range of graduate and undergraduate mathematics education courses.

Areas of Specialty

Transition researcher from high school (secondary) mathematics to college level mathematics, specifically with a focus on how secondary teachers teach for conceptual understanding and transfer of learning; Quantitative analysis of large scale data sets; Assessing student performance.

Research Interests

Teaching mathematics for learning, which is defined as a permanent change in long term memory. Working with the 4C/ID model from cognitive load theory to confirm this instructional method in the instruction of secondary mathematics. 

Quantitative methodologist for studies using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, repeated measures ANOVA, and other quantitative measures.
