Undergraduate Research Conferences
SURC
The SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC) is a multidisciplinary spring semester event. SURC brings together undergraduate students and faculty mentors from across the SUNY system for a full day of activities, including sessions devoted to student presentations (oral, performance, artistic displays, and poster), luncheon, keynote speakers, a SUNY Graduate School and Career Fair, and professional development workshops for students and faculty. SURC is supported by the Offices of the Chancellor, Provost, and Research Foundation, as well as SUNY student and faculty governance organizations. All undergraduate students engaged in research and their mentors across SUNY are invited to attend.
SURC 2026
We are pleased to announce that President Macpherson and Interim Provost Brasted are enthusiastically supporting the travel and registration costs of a student cohort with accepted projects for presentation to attend SURC in 2026.
While the SURC 2026 offers two dates and host locations this year (SURC WEST at Fredonia on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, and SURC Central at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse on Friday, April 24, 2026), we have picked the SURC Central date, Friday, April 24, 2026 for organizing the travel of a cohort of students. Students who wish to present at SURC WEST may do so but would need to make their own travel arrangements.
Help of departmental faculty to mentor student researchers is needed to ensure students submit successful abstracts to SURC. All students, regardless if they present at SURC WEST or SURC Central, also need to complete an internal MachForm submission, which is needed for planning and payment purposes.
Faculty Mentors will:
- Identify significant student research projects and encourage students to participate in person at SURC 2026 on April 21 at SUNY Fredonia or on April 24 at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
- Review and approve student abstracts prior to submission to the SURC website. If desired prior to submission, abstract drafts may be emailed to Professor Markus Hoffmann for review and feedback.
- Ensure students apply to SUNY Brockport’s SURC travel fellowship program by completing an internal MachForm.
Students will:
- Submit applications for a Brockport SURC Travel Fellowship to the SURC Campus Committee via online application in MachForm by February 22, 2026.
- Submit their own abstracts to SURC by February 22, 2026.
- Professor Markus Hoffmann should be indicated as the campus coordinator if that information is requested in the online submission form.
- The Brockport SURC Travel Fellowship application includes a signed pledge of their commitment to present at SURC if their abstract is accepted for presentation. The college will only support students with accepted SURC abstracts who submitted the Application machform, including the Commitment Statement.
- Regularly check email for updates regarding their application, registration, and travel.
Please Note: Students who do not submit BOTH the Brockport SURC Travel Fellowship Application AND their SURC Abstract by the deadline of February 22, 2026 will not be considered. No exceptions. Beware that according to SURC 2026 abstract information, “Space at both sites is limited. Abstracts and registrants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis”.
