Competitive $2,000 award for tenure track faculty in first five years of service at SUNY Brockport. Final disbursement of funds will occur after recipient’s submission of an application for an external grant, of at least $2,500 (working with the Scholar and Grants Development Office), to fund scholarship or creative activity required for appointment, promotion and tenure.

On a reoccurring basis, all applications that are received will be considered for the recipient of the Pre-Tenure Grants Development Fenton Endowed Award for $2,000. This is a competitive $2,000 award for tenure track faculty in first five years of service at SUNY Brockport, funded by generous donors, to advance scholarship or creative activity required for appointment, promotion and tenure valued by home department.

This form is for those who are seeking approval for an extension or revision to the original, committee-reviewed application for Internal Grant Awards (Provost’s Post Tenure Fellowship, Pre Tenure Grant Development Award, Distinguished Professor Award, Scholarly Incentive Award, and Innovation Micro Grant) with currently active awards. No-cost extensions must be applied for 30 days prior to the award term date and be requested for one year only. A detailed justification must be included.

The information below pertains to all funding for research involving participant payments:

To ensure participants can be paid for their involvement in research using different funding sources the campus’ Budget Office, AVP for Finance and Management, and the Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Program’s Research Foundation, have developed procedures.

Participant involvement requires IRB approval prior to conducting any research with participants and prior to any participant payments.

These procedures must be followed prior to any participant involvement or payment. If not followed, participant payments and/or reimbursements will not be authorized or approved for payment using the identified funds. 

Process for Participant Payments with State-Funds

For participant payments using Start-up, FSA funds, Departmental Account(s), or other identified state-side funding.

First Step: Please complete the mach form https://forms.brockport.edu/view.php?id=5639066

Once you have submitted the Mach Form the following will occur:

1. Mach form is reviewed for accuracy and completeness, including IRB approval, account number(s), and funding amounts.
2. Budgeting will verify the state-side accounts have available funds
3. Funds will be transferred to Scholarship, Research & Sponsor Program’s Research
   Foundation
4. Applicant will receive notice of approval (or denial) and will be informed to contact Debbie Fisher (defisher@brockport.edu) or (585) 395-5153 to proceed

*Please note that funds will not be reimbursed if unused, so please be accurate in your estimate of costs.

This process only applies to the following survey platforms: MTurk, Prolific, and Qualtrics. All other platforms will require participant payments to be funded via grant dollars.

How to pay participants:

1. Determine payment method
   1. Survey platforms that pay participants at the end of the survey including MTurk, Prolific, and Qualtrics
   2. Direct payments to participants will require an agreement to participate form signed by each participant, a w-9 form for each, and a purchase requisition.
   3. Alternative options are available in limited circumstances and requires discussion with the Scholarship, Research and Sponsored Programs Office.
2. Provide a completed Research Foundation purchase requisition with payment amount and vender as determined by payment method to The Research Foundation for SUNY

Process for External Grant Funding:

Funding for participants included in a grant proposal will be included in the grant budget developed by Laura Merkl, Scholarship, Research and Sponsored Programs Office in collaboration with the Project Investigator. The method will be determined at that time.

This form is intended for use by those who have been awarded an internal grant from the Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office. If your awarded project included a budget for a research assistant, please complete and submit this form to indicate who you are hiring and to receive final approval for hire.

Faculty Scholarship Award (FSA) funds reimburse eligible expenses associated with professionally relevant activities that the faculty’s department APT document values towards promotion, tenure, and performance at rank.

Technology-related proposals, especially those based on new and innovative ideas, for teaching, research, and program administration will be considered under this proposal. On an annual basis, up to $10,000 will be awarded to a minimum of 2 faculty and/or professional staff. Award size may vary with a maximum award amount of $5,000 per person. Faculty and/or staff will apply or be nominated for funding to support an activity or program of their design that promotes and supports the University’s global education efforts and initiatives. See the Outstanding Global Engagement Award Guideline below for more details and a list of proposal ideas that may be eligible for funding. This award is made possible through the Lewine Family Global Engagement Fund.

Applicants may self-nominate, or a SUNY Brockport employee can nominate a faculty or professional staff to apply for the award.

Competitive full semester leave grant for assistant professors who have received at least one renewal at the University and belong to an underrepresented group with regard to ethnicity, race, gender, disability, and/or veteran status.  All received applications will be extensively reviewed by a review committee and only one application will be submitted on behalf of the University each semester. Funded by UUP and SUNY Brockport.

Applications are due:

• Spring 2026 Semester: Due to Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office by September 17, 2025. Due to UUP/JLMC by October 1, 2025
• Fall 2026 Semester: Due to Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office by February 16, 2026. Due to UUP/JLMC by March 1, 2026

*Note these are hard deadlines to the Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office to provide ample time for the UUP Committee to review. The successful candidate will be notified prior to the UUP/JLMC deadline to allow the candidate to submit the application to UUP/JLMC timely.

Application Process

• Announcements for Drescher award deadline, application, and guidelines are listed in the Daily Eagle
  • Drescher information also disseminated to Associate Deans and Chairs to disseminate.
• Drescher Candidate completes and obtains all information except Provost letter and UUP letter:
  • Application
  • Obtains all HR records required
  • Obtains Letter of Recommendation from the Chair
  • Email or other document from the Chair on how classes will be covered during candidate’s absence
  • Letter of Recommendation or email from the Dean approving the candidate’s request for Drescher leave
• After the above information is completed, the candidate contacts Laura Merkl, Scholarship, Research & Sponsored Programs Office
  • Laura will configure the salary information as far as what is needed to cover the classes and the proportionate amounts for the campus and JLMC
  • Laura will complete the letter regarding the financial information required for the application and obtain signature
  • Laura returns the budget information and letter to candidate
• Candidate to obtain Provost letter
  • Candidate sends the application with HR records, Letter of Recommendation, detail of how courses will be covered during candidate’s absence, Dean approval, and financial letter to Alyshia O’Connor.
  • Alyshia will draft the letter for the Provost and obtain his signature
  • Alyshia returns the Provost letter to the candidate
• UUP Committee and Letter
  • The entire application with all letters, attachments, etc. is sent to Laura Merkl
  • Laura Merkl forwards the applications to the UUP Committee
  • The UUP Committee reviews the applications and determines whose application moves forward (per campus only on Drescher award per semester).
  • UUP will complete and obtain a Letter of Recommendation from the UUP President and send with the successful candidate’s application to UUP/JLMC
• UUP/JLMC approves or denies and notifies the candidate

The Professional Development Grant Program is intended to fund a professional development project or activity to assist three or more employees to develop their professional potential and to prepare for advancement. Eligibility is similar to the Individual Development Awards Programs.

Priority will be given to projects or activity that entail a cost of more than $1,000 per employee. Awards may not exceed $2,500 per employee and a total of $15,000 per application. A 40% campus contribution is required for this Program.

The program is being relaunched and is intended to bring SUNY faculty from across the system together for the purpose of examining new trends, addresses current challenges and changes, and reviewing promising new research findings and pedagogical practices in a wide range of disciplines and fields. The proposals should be focused on scholarly, pedagogical, and/or creative activities with the ultimate goal of supporting the cross-fertilization of ideas and inviting collaborations from within the system and beyond.
