Celebrate Douglass Day 2026

There will be a transcribe-a-thon event to celebrate Douglass Day on Friday, February 13, from 3 pm to 4:30 pm in the Kiefer Room at Drake Memorial Library.

Encourage your students to celebrate Frederick Douglass Day in Drake Library. Douglass Day 2026 will feature general correspondence of the Colored Conventions Project. This crowd-sourced effort is transcribing pages with partners from around the world, and we need your help. You can help to promote the event by bringing your class or encouraging drop-in attendance as extra credit. No prior experience necessary, and all are welcome!

The event helps to create new and freely available resources for learning about black history. The collection includes public letters, correspondence, programs, and more. If you can’t attend in-person on February 13, you can also transcribe online from anywhere with an Internet connection. This is a great way to learn about primary sources and contribute to public open access digital scholarship.

In addition to Drake Library, we thank the following for their support:

  • History Forum
  • History Department
  • African & African American Studies
  • Women and Gender Studies
  • Education
  • Languages and Instructional Design
  • OEDI
  • Global Education and Engagement
  • The Friends of Drake Library

Refreshments will be available. If you are bringing a class, please contact Mary Jo Orzech.
