SUNY Brockport students from Rotaract, Circle K, Judo Club, Women Rising, Men of Color, Womens’ Field Hockey, It Begins in Brockport (IBIB) groups, community members from Seymour Library, LiftBridge Books and more walked the Erie Canal trail to pick up litter and debris as part of an annual Earth Week clean-up.
Other groups are participating during April as well. Saturday’s group collected 20 trash bags of litter, bottles, fishing line, plastic, cardboard and other items. The most unusual find was a rust-coated bike. Bottle and can proceeds were donated to IBIB, Brockport’s community makerspace. Special thanks to the Campus Sustainability Committee and Facilities for their help.
The statewide event was sponsored Parks and Trails New York and the New York State Canal Corporation. For more information, contact canalsweep@ptny.org
