Friends of Drake Library Celebrate Library Research Excellence

The Friends of Drake Library recently honored the winners of the 2026 Library Student Research Awards along with Wells and Cornell Library Service Awards during a celebratory luncheon on May 13, 2026.

This annual program recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional library research skills or service. This year’s honorees include:

  • First Place ($1,000)
    • David Evan Sanchez-Gamboni (Junior, Biochemistry & Pre-Med), “In Silico Characterization of the Hypothetical Protein Activating Signal Cointegrator 1 Isoform X2 (A0A8C8XCE6) in Panthera leo,” mentored by Dr. Sarah Saputo.
  • Second Place ($500)
  • Third Place ($250)

Assistant Vice Provost Rey Sia and Library Director Bonnie Swoger congratulated the winners and faculty advisors.

Special thanks to the Friends of Drake Library volunteer judges: Joan Fenton, Bruce Leslie, and Jill Campbell, who noted the impressive quality of this year’s submissions. The winning papers are hosted in the SUNY Digital Repository (SDR). The next award cycle will start in fall 2026.

The Marion J. Wells and George W. Cornell Awards honor the memory of two of Drake’s highly respected librarians. This recognition is awarded to students who serve as student assistants in the library and have demonstrated exemplary promise. This year, Samantha Williams, Junior, (Art ) received the Marion J. Wells Library Service Award. The George W. Cornell Library Service Administration Award was presented to Anadia St. John, Sophomore, Psychology.
