David Z. Jacome, Ed.D., M.B.A., M.S., is an accounting educator, technologist, and applied researcher whose work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and business education. He serves as Lecturer in Accounting and Accounting Area Coordinator in the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance at SUNY Brockport, where he is also Co-Advisor to the AI Club and a member of the University’s AI Task Force. His teaching, scholarship, and consulting practice are anchored in the conviction that AI literacy and data fluency are now foundational competencies for every business professional.
Dr. Jacome teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in financial, managerial, intermediate, and cost accounting; accounting systems; financial statement analysis; business statistics and econometrics; and graduate-level accounting data analytics and accounting for managers. His classrooms function as living laboratories for AI- and analytics-driven decision-making, integrating Power BI, Tableau, Python, SQL, Excel, QuickBooks, and modern generative-AI tooling. He is among the early faculty at SUNY Brockport to formally adopt AI-centered and AI-resistant pedagogical frameworks, having completed the Association of College and University Educators’ Teaching with AI certification.
His professional development in artificial intelligence and data science is extensive. He holds AI and generative-AI certifications from Google, IBM, the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, San Diego State University, and the University of North Florida; the Google Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Certificates; Data Analytics and Python certificates from IBM and Meta; and the Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate credential. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, PMI Project Management Ready, Bloomberg Finance and ESG certified, and holds an Innovative Leadership Certificate from Virscend University, among numerous other accounting, taxation, ESG, research, and compliance credentials.
With more than fifteen years of teaching experience across public and AACSB-aligned institutions — including SUNY Brockport, Monroe Community College, Saint Peter’s University, and Essex County College, where he began as Adjunct Professor of Mathematics and Physics — Dr. Jacome has built a strong record of designing curricula aligned with AACSB Assurance of Learning standards, CPA and CMA competencies, and emerging workforce demand for AI and analytics talent. He has taught across accounting, finance, business, mathematics, physics, and the engineering sciences, an interdisciplinary foundation that distinctly shapes his approach to data-driven business education.
Alongside his academic career, Dr. Jacome brings substantial executive experience to the classroom. He served as Vice President of Engineering, Institutional Research, and Data Science at Attis Capital, LLC, where he led data infrastructure, analytics, and institutional research functions supporting investment decisions. As Founder and former Chief Executive Officer of the International Federation of Physicists, he also served as Vice President of Data Engineering and Operations, building a global community of physical scientists and the data backbone supporting its research and member services. He has served as a Management Analyst for Wall Street Investments, Inc., advising on operational and quantitative initiatives, and as a Vistage Chair with Vistage Worldwide, Inc., the world’s largest CEO peer-advisory organization, coaching senior executives on strategy, leadership, and performance. In 2026 he is launching AI Solutions, a new venture assembled with a team of collaborators across the artificial intelligence and data analytics ecosystem to deliver enterprise AI strategy, model deployment, and analytics transformation services to mid-market and institutional clients.
Dr. Jacome’s scholarship reflects this same convergence of analytics, AI, and business education. His current and forthcoming work addresses student-generated data in accounting and economics instruction, sustainability and ESG integration in the undergraduate business curriculum, design-science approaches to AACSB sustainability accreditation, the impact of generalist CEO skills on corporate financial and ESG performance, and the relationship between environmental management capability and brand value. His doctoral dissertation examined ethnic and racial diversity in STEM programs in higher education, reflecting his long-standing commitment to expanding access to quantitative and technology-driven disciplines. He has presented at the New York State Economics Association Annual Conference and the International Business Analytics Conference, and has accepted papers forthcoming at the Academy of Business Research.
A committed community-engaged educator, Dr. Jacome serves as Site Coordinator of the CASH/VITA tax preparation program at SUNY Brockport, an experiential learning initiative providing free tax services to underserved residents while advancing AACSB societal-impact objectives. He is also Founder of Hudson County NJ Tennis, a New Jersey-based nonprofit organization expanding access to tennis instruction, recreational play, and youth development programming across Hudson County communities. He has delivered workshops on QuickBooks, accounting analytics, finance, and process improvement for entrepreneurs and regional businesses, and previously held secondary-education leadership roles as Science Chairperson at Benedictine Academy and Science Department Head at Hyde Leadership Charter School.
Dr. Jacome holds an Ed.D. in Administration and Educational Leadership, an M.B.A. in International Business and Management, and an M.S. in Accounting with a concentration in Risk Management from Saint Peter’s University; an M.S. in Physics and a Graduate Certificate in Photonics from Stevens Institute of Technology, where he is ABD in Physics; and a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from Saint Peter’s College. He has also completed an Executive Business Certificate in Nonprofit, Public, and Organizational Management at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a Program Certificate in Government Affairs and International Relations at Harvard University.
His teaching and mentorship have been honored with finalist recognition for the Presidential Teaching Excellence Award at SUNY Brockport (2024, 2025), Green & Gold Star Awards across multiple semesters, and repeated Tribute and Kudos Awards for Excellence in Teaching at Monroe Community College. His students have earned PCAOB Scholars awards, NYSSCPA Outstanding Student Awards, FEI scholarships, and Honors College and School of Business and Management distinctions.
Beyond the university, Dr. Jacome is an Elite Professional with the Racquet Sports Professionals Association and holds a Professional in Adult Development credential from the Professional Tennis Registry, having coached tennis and organized community programming in Union City and across Hudson County, New Jersey, for more than two decades. He is a devoted father and a practicing Catholic with a deep appreciation for interfaith learning, intellectual breadth, and lifelong personal growth.
